OR, plan on attending our Sacrament Preparation Info Meeting on Saturday, Sept 21st at 10am. There will be opportunities at this meeting to apply and interview for Confirmation. We ask that parents AND students attend the interview.
PREPARATION FOR THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION:
The process to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation takes place once a teen has turned 15, has already been Baptized and received First Communion, and who personally desires the Sacrament of Confirmation. Faith in Jesus and a desire for life in the Catholic Church is expected for all teens who request Confirmation.
Teens that are not yet ready to prepare for Confirmation are encouraged to attend weekly Young Church, the Fall Spirit Retreat, our Summer youth events (such as the Steubenville Youth Conference or Lifeteen Camp Covecrest), as well as continue to grow in faith as a family at home until a personal desire for Confirmation is authentic.
WHAT DOES CONFIRMATION PREP FOR TEENS AT SFA LOOK LIKE?
The Preparation Process for a teen seeking Confirmation (who is eligible) begins with a Parent & Teen Confirmation interview. See above to schedule your interview. If eligible, the preparation process then includes 9 Teen Sessions held on Sunday nights in the Family Life Center. Students 15-17 years old can apply for Confirmation at any time (whenever they are ready). We have Confirmation tracks beginning in October, November, and March.
WHEN WILL MY SON/DAUGHTER BE CONFIRMED?
Once your son or daughter has completed all 9 Confirmation sessions and has submitted all of the paperwork and assignments, he or she is able to be Confirmed by Bishop Michael Olson (at St. Francis or another parish in the Catholic Diocese of Ft. Worth). We do not yet know when Bishop Olson will be at St. Francis to confirm out students. He typically comes in the Spring but it could happen at any time of the year. We will notify parents via email once we receive our Confirmation date.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER CONFIRMATION?
Confirmation exists to initiate us into full communion with the Catholic Church and her mission. It’s not the end, it’s the beginning! Students are invited to join a Discipleship Group after being Confirmed. Discipleship Groups meet off-site monthly to grow in their relationship with Jesus and as a missionary in today’s world. To learn more about Discipleship Groups, click HERE.
Confirmed students are also expected to find a regular way to serve the parish in some way. Some examples include helping to lead Young Church, being a lector, greeter, or usher at Mass, or helping with Children’s Catechesis.
