Discipleship Groups work because faithful and caring adults volunteer to support teens as they grow deeper in their faith.
In the words of Pope Paul VI, we believe that “modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if to teachers it is because they are witnesses” (Evangelii Nuntiandi 41). That being said, DGroup Leaders must be active Young Church Core Members who are actual Disciples, Catholics in good standing with the Church, and who have been vetted and trained by the Parish Staff. They are members of our Parish and have met all safe environment training and requirements for the Diocese of Fort Worth. In Short, Discipleship Group Leaders:
- Have a heart for God and for teens
- Aren't perfect, but are growing
- Work with parents to help build teens and support the Discipleship Group community
What a Disciple Group Leader does:
DGroup Leaders “walk the walk” as disciples to lead a small community of teens who want to grow as missionary disciples. They accomplish this by meeting weekly or bi-weekly with their DGroup in the home of a parent, the SFA Youth Center, or in a public place (such as a coffee house). DGroup Leaders guide teens through the how-tos of prayer and unpacks Church teaching in a way that applies directly to what their teens are experiencing in their daily lives.
